The Medetec MVTR Calculator is an EXCEL spreadsheet
that facilitates the conversion of experimentally
determined moisture vapour transmission (MVTR) values
for semipermeable film dressings obtained under
controlled conditions of temperature and relative
humidity to values that will apply under more
clinically relevant conditions of temperature and
RH.
The development and validation of this calculator is
described in a paper published by Thomas,S. et
al. in the Journal of Wound Care Volume 20,
Number 10, 2001 pages 484-489.

Two versions of the calculator are available a
'locked' user-friendly version which permits
test data and selected alternative conditions of RH and
temperature to be entered but does not allow the user
access to hidden or locked cells containing the
calculations. It is strongly recommended that
this version of the calculator should be used
routinely.

The second version of the calculator provides more
information, enabling the user to gain access to the
formulae used within the calculations. If these are
inadvertently modified in anyway, a warning message
will be displayed indicating that the results produced
by the calculator may no longer be correct. It
is strongly recommended that this version of the
calculator should only be used by individuals who wish
to understand the way in which the results are
derived.
